I had the old petrol 1.6, which was a 110 bhp model. I how have the HDi 90. It feels a lot more powerful than the 1.6 petrol, because not only does it have a lot more torque, it has more power as well - until, of course, you get up to over 4000 revs. Yes, the 1.6 petrol engine had more power over 4500 revs, but I rarely drive at those sorts of revs, hence the HDi 90 has been great for me. So good that I haven't even seriously considered getting it remapped.
I suspect that the OP will find that the HDi 90 engine is fine. However I await the views of those who have driven both the HDi 90 and the HDi 115 engines. There don't seem to be many of them here!
