09 LH Rear Indicator

Hi Chaps,

So on my '09, the LH rear direction indicator failed, though front and side are functioning (flashing fast, of course). Does not function on hazard either.

I popped in a new bulb, which worked fine for a bit and then the indicator failed again.

Turns out that the previous bulb was actually fine (note to self: check next time), so I suspected a dodgy connection.

By probing the connections in the bulb holder unit I identified the connector pins, and found no (or maybe very small?) voltage reaching the unit, so I suspect a dodgy connection or wire further along.

Can anyone point me in the direction of good locations for tracing back the wire to identify where the fault might lie?

Also, I read in an online manual, "After changing the rear direction indicator bulb, the reinitialisation time is more than approximately 2 minutes". Can anyone shed any light on what this actually means? i.e. reinitialisation of what, and is the light not expected to work at all for more than two minutes? Is this some electronic wizardry that might be at fault?

Hi Slim Dave.It never ceases to amaze me the length's some manufacturers go to, to make a very simple circuit more complex,and the French seem to be masters at that.I've taken a look at the handbook and you are correct ,i just couldnt believe what you were saying,how damn stupid.There are some really strange electronic gadgetry done at the moment such as the Canbus system which is even fitted to some motorcycles,[ Google it ] and i would take a guess that this is the french version.So, there doesnt appear to be a separate fuse for the indicators which would lead me to think that they are probably driven from the E.C.U. ,i may be wrong but it makes sense otherwise where,s the power coming from ? It may be a case of sucking it in and contacting your local mobile vehicle electrician ,some of them are really good and they can get hold of the correct wiring diagram which seem to be unobtainable to the likes of us ordinary mortals.Good luck.

It's extraordinary stuff. I think I'll let her sit for a while with the battery disconnected and see if that makes a difference, but you're right -- it's especially a physical routing diagram that would be really useful for this kind of stuff.

Good morning Slimdave.I,m surprised that no-one has come back with any ideas.I would be very interested to know what the fault turns out to be when you cure it.Unfortunately the French are well known for strange wiring and dont like owners DIYing i guess.Please keep us posted .

The plug that connects to the light cluster can often suffer corrosion as can the bulbholders themselves. Is that Where you have already checked? Are the other lights in the cluster working properly or doing strange things, as if not, it could be the earth connection?
My thinking is that you may have temporarily moved the connection enough for it to work again for a bit when you replaced the bulb
