1.6 hdi mrk2 exhaust gas smell?
#1
Sad

got fumes or really strong smell of exhaust fumes coming inside cabin area, when air vents closed not so bad, when opened and heater on its not nice!
i checked under bonnet, no oil leaks evident, so i jet washed the engine bay top and below and let it dry, soon as heating is on got the smell bad again ,worse if you zip the throttle while stationary, back door seals appear ok.
cant find location of the leak, now suspect the front down pipe? or manifold? or?

can anyone advise please as driving me mad!

thanks

Have you all ready done a thread on this ? if you get some one with a wet cloth in their hand at the back of the car open the bonnet start the car get them to hold the cloth over the end of the exhaust then you look in the engine bay the back pressure mite help you find the exhaust leak .

Have you checked fumes aren't leaking from around the injectors? I suspect you'd get that type of smell if you had a leaky injector seal or possibly if you had a loose glow plug (which I think is unlikely).
