Ok got hold of a code reader and I got a few codes. P2111. P1161. P0487. P1351. Had a look and I see the EGR valve might be the problem. Can the EGR valve be repaired or will it have to be replaced?

A pattern egr is around £65 on eBay, the only way I can think that it would give fumes in cabin is if it was leaking fumes into the engine bay and the blower was drawing the fumes into the cabin.
I've seen videos on YouTube of people cleaning egr's with oven cleaner, if you try it be very careful as that chemical is nasty.

Ok so I took the EGR valve off today and gave it a good clean with a rag, toothbrush and some wd40 type stuff. Put it back on and fixed my cold air intake pipe because part of it had fallen off. Took the van for a spin. It seems to be running more smoothly and the smell of fumes has gone and the engine light on the dash has gone off. Hopefully problem fixed. Thanks for all the advice given. Much appreciated. Planning a service for it next
