9 volt charger stopped working
Hi all

I have a Berlingo 2005 diesel 1.9.
The 9volt charger in the van has stopped working and I really need it to run my cell phone from and use its gps as I have just moved to a new city and get lost really easily. All other lights are working fine and it is not the charger that is faulty, that has already been checked. Can one buy a new part for it and is it easy to fit it? I see that there is a screw at the bottom of the cylinder where you insert the 9v charger....could it be a fuse? where are the fuses for this particular charger? According to the manual that I downloaded from the internet, I'd have to disassemble the whole panel connecting to the gear lever... or is it just a matter of replacing the whole cylinder?? Should I be worried that if I try to do this on my own I might jeopardize the rest of the electrics in the van? Yeap, I am a woman and that is why I am so bad at all this and so adamant about not going to the mechanics for this....i usually get ripped off! Sad

Start simple its usually a blown fuse where somebody has overloaded the socket.

I take it you mean the 12 volt cig lighter socket?

Not got my manual to hand but I'm sure somebody will be along shortly to tell you what fuse number it is.

The allen head screw at the charger socket's base is an assembly item, not part of the fusing. It's my opinion the Peugeot / Citroën lighter and charging sockets are poor design. If the fuses check out fine and your charger works in another car, try packing out the sides of the charger plug with a bit of folded card.
I had a similar issue caused by a faulty charger, the fuse was blown. In the manual it's F22 (20A) in the panel beneath the steering wheel.

They are exactly the same as the ones used in every other vehicle I've had, made to an automotive standard aren't they ? Is the glass fuse inside the charger still alright ? I had one in my sat nav that failed, they are usually 5v not 9v for phones and sat nav.
So where does this bit go then ?
I reckon the ID is larger on the PSA sockets than (say) my Renault or Alfa observations.

I've also got an aftermarket socket with battery clamps on tails, that fits better on GPS and phone chargers than the in-car ones.
