Adverts

Andre,
have noticed adverts within the threads now. Is this required to keep the forum going? How are you doing with server space etc?

I think you'll find that if you make a modest contribution those ads disappear....I don't get them! :-))

There should only be an ad at the top, at the bottom, and every 4 or so posts (ads dont appear inside posts, but between posts and are quite small).

They have been there for a few months now - necessary evil i guess is the way to put it.

One easy solution is to use the Firefox browser with the Addblock Plus plugin installed. Works a treat.

I don't mind the ads if they pay for the forum.

If you block them you are taking away money from the forum that you use for free!

I'm not sure if that is true. Maybe André can clarify if the revenue comes from successful displays on users' screens, or clickthroughs, or just advertiser subscriptions.

In my case, I made a little donation because I wanted André to feel that bit less "obligated" to advertisers. It wasn't to avoid the advert displays. Smile

They don't bother me, and I would never click on them. It's just there was one that said "your PC needs a tune up" or such like. Clearly this is a standard ad and in no way has the perfomance of my PC, or phone in this case been measured etc.

Can these ads be trusted, with so many scams about these days?

The PC 'tune up' Adverts should be avoided at all costs. All they will do is tell you just how poor your PC is performing (when all is fine) and suggest you spend ££££'s on some software that does no good at all. Possibly giving you a Trojan or virus along with it!
