All Dash Gauges Not Working - # Pics Added #

Hello all firstly. My first post, and I wish it were a more optimistic one.

I bought myself a 2001 Berlingo 2.0 hdi today, and amongst a few little issues I've noticed on my drive home (like the 2nd key isnt even the same shape as the 1st key!), all of my dashboard dials are not working.

Speed, Revs, Fuel, Temp, Mileage, Indicator signal - All are not working.

The indicators do work, just no flash on the dash. Also working is the airbag and oil light, which go out as normal.

Looked around and seen plenty of threads for one or maybe two of the dials not working, but nothing for all of them. Starting to worry I am facing a big bill now, which is the last thing I need. Luckily I can use my phones gps for speed until sorted.

More electrics info -

Interior lights work as they should in front & back
Radio 'works' but once taking key out of ignition and driver door is closed it will turn on, spit out the cd and make a whirring noise
Airbag & Oil lights work, so do headlight related dash lights too
Gauges etc do not have backlight when lights are on
Wipers/washers/horn all work fine


Anyone any ideas of what I'm looking at with this? And thanks in advance.

Have you tried a bit of percussive maintenance (hitting it) ? Look for signs of it having been taken apart, someone may have disturbed a connector or forgotten to replace something.

Ah I see. Get the hammer and start swinging, that kind of thing? I genuinely hope it can be fixed, and by that I mean fixed with minimal expense, as the van itself drove smoothly and quieter than expected for the 155 miles home.

Also, the radio was not giving out any sound, removed it, and it was a mess of iso adapters and aerial extentions back there, so managed to thin that out and got sound now at least. Wonder if they could be linked?

I have virtually the same problems which originally I thought was a wiring issue but it turned out it was the bsi at fault and couldn't be repaired.

Hopefully your one of the lucky ones and its just faulty clocks but try a bsi reset and check all your earths and fuses...

Bba-reman can look/fix your clocks, cost me £140 collected, repaired and delivered and would of been £35 if they found no problem with them.

Oh no, once your thread started talking about checking fuses and earths etc I kinda glazed over. Electrics are not a strong point sadly. And given your experience with bba-reman, I'm not sure I would want to risk forking out unless it will fix it.

Oddly, my heaters do work perfectly fine though.

Yeah just skip over that bit....

BBA-reman told me you can't switch clocks and that they need the originals but this morning I've fitted a secondhand bsi and secondhand clocks off two different vehicles and there both working fine!

I now just need to get the bsi coded to my key somehow...

Ah, now that is a bit better news. So, in theory, a second hand bsi and clocks, either off the same van or mixed can work?

With regards the key, could you not get the ignition off the van the bsi came from?

Here are some pics of my fuses etc, as I have no idea if everything is there or correct or anything. Also, as well as the gauges not working, I've noticed that when I take the stereo fascia off, remove the key and get out of the car, the stereo turns on and spits out a disc, or if empty just whirs for a few seconds. I can't see any reason for this other than some dodgy bodged electrics.

Bit more hopefully useful info -

Was driving home last night, and noticed once I'd stopped, that there is some power getting to the clocks, as my mileage sections backlight was flashing. It was incredibly faint and every few seconds however.

Tried the bsi reset, skipping the key fob part obviously. But, this had no affect.

Disconnected my stereo as well, as the constant whirring of it powering up just because I unlocked the car or locked it was getting ridiculous.
