Alternator problem?
Hi all, again

I'm still getting problems hope someone may be able to help. I have a 54 Berlingo enterprise problem is got no dipped beam, wipers, blower "fan", and the battery light is on. Do you think these are controlled by the engine on relay?

Also after about 1 minute instrument cluster turn off, is this because it doesn't know the engine is running?

I wonder if there where no problems and I was to switch the ignition on but not start it would the clocks go off automatically after about a minute?

If anyone does have a van like this would you be kind enough to check what don't work with the ignition on and engine off also do the clock turn them self off after a while?

You haven't reminded us which engine you have but
it sounds like a BSI re-set would be a first step.
If you have disconnected the battery at some point without observing the
correct procedure you can 'crash' the software in the BSI and these can
lead to unpredictable occurrences such as the ones that you describe.
The BSI is an electronics control board beneath the right side of the
steering wheel. All 'body systems' are controlled from it. Basically it's
a computer and thus it needs to be shut down correctly.

It's a 19D DW8 I've tried to reset BSI but haven't got a remote key with it only a copied key with no buttons so couldn't get to far with that.
If your key is not the original 'plip' key but the spare key the re-set should still
be possible. The key that you have still has to communicate with the Immobiliser
system and if it didn't, your van wouldn't start. So you have the 'original spare key'
or a correctly coded copy.

All of the symptoms you have outlined are the similar to what I had when I disconnected
my battery without allowing the BSI to shut down! I had an extra one! The
wipers wouldn't switch off! So keep checking back here and perhaps either Rustscrat or Addo can
talk you through doing a re-set with no remote key.

Thanks for all your help guys I've finally solved the problem. The guy who changed the engine plugged the wrong lead into the TDC sensor. After changing the leads around everything came back to life. Knocking noise gone, wipers, lights, radio, blowers. Absolutely everything. Thanks again everyone for all your help.
How the hell did they manage that? :eek:

Most plugs are colour coded and physically keyed so it cannot be done unless a connector is damaged or deliberately trimmed.
These two where identical same colour same key but different colour wires that was the only visible difference.
