Another wiper issue.

hi there, I know this subject has been covered a few times, I have read through previous posts to try and solve my wipers not switching off. I have removed the scuttle panel to reveal a bunch of wires with three relays. it appears someone has had a bit of a go at the wiring. I fiddled and cleaned the contacts and now the wipers switch off, but ony work on fast speed and do not park properly when they are switched off, any help would be awesome, thanks!

If this has been the case since you got the van then the previous owner may have
done something quite horrible! If, on the other hand this is a fault that has recently ocurred
then someone here will be able to help you sort it out.
Sorry I can't personally give you more advice.

it's been intermittent since I got the van, previous owner must have bodged it. I'm confused as to what they've done, inline fuses and wires going everywhere!

update; I had a play around with the relays replaced damaged wires and the wipers only work on fast, and when they are switched off they do not park in the correct place. (wherever they are when you change the stalk is where they stay) so im starting to edge towards a motor? am I correct as 17 in the best age for having to go and buy car parts before pay day.

As your wipers are working on fast the motor seems to me to be OK , its what controls the speeds that is the problem.
When you switch them off there should be a supply to the motor which lets it keep working until a switch in the motor is tripped then it stops. This switch will be a micro switch type and set so that it switches off when the wipers are in or near the wiper park position. These are triggered by a cam on the motor itself. Check the connections and relays again .There should be two live feeds , one to run the motor and one to supply the park switch.

but could it not be a fault in the motor going flat out rather than just having no wipers?

No. The motor is what it is.....a motor. The fact that it works on
'fast' indicates that it's OK. It does not have switched multiple windings
that determine the speeds.
I think you're going to need the circuit diagram for the original set-up
and work from there. The original owner may have tried to work around
a BSI problem by providing the wipers with an alternative supply. You can use the
circuit diagram to find what has been changed (or removed!).
Multiplexing is the use of a computer, your BSI, which does all of the switching of
all of the components on the vehicle via a communication line, the CAN bus,
....it saves having heavy gauge wiring all around the vehicle.
We have some very bright people** on this forum and I feel sure that you will be
able to learn a great deal about what makes your Berlingo 'tick'.
