Newbie - Does the B9 1.6 HDi have a canister oil filter or an element filter. Thanks.

Easy to change. Make sure to replace the o-ring on the oil filter cap at the same time. O-ring (should be) supplied with filter. Tightening torque is 25nm if memory serves. It is written on the filter cap.
