Roof Bars / Rack
Amelie, A Working Berlingo Van.
Things & Bits that I have Modified on my Berlingo Van.
The roof-bars. I have added two thick planks of wood between the two standard Citroen roof-bars. I used 4 'U' bolts to clamp the wooden planks to both bars. (See the photos..) The wooden planks are 100-mm wide by 25-mm thick and around the length of the vans roof line.
The 'U' bolts are tightened and the nut-heads are counter-sunk into the wooden plank. The threaded stubs are cut off. Leaving a flat, clear working surface on the top of the roof line.
This makes the roof-bars much stronger for carrying ladders, timbers and roof-boxs etc. The weight is carried / shared between / across the roof-bars more evenly. It also means if one of the clamps works loose over time (With bumps & potholes) Then the other clamps help hold your load on and stop it from falling off..!
With this method you can also add /remove the whole roof-bar /roof-rack all in one go. And it fits inside the van if you need to keep it secure from thieving trolls.
I took the end caps off the Roof bars to make it easier to grease the bolts.
Then of course the lovely Audrey Tautou / Amelie..!
