.... Now here is a tip for everyone which will save you all money .....
...That clamp for the back box needs to be mounted with the two clamping halves sitting vertically / fixing bolts horizontal ......otherwise the clamp will hold water and promote rust. This rust will then eat away at the centre section pipe on the flared joint leaving you to replace this as well. Since the cat is located in the centre section ( on my vehicle ) it could become expensive !!!!
How do I know this ? Because I've just done my back box and now need to buy a centre section. The best I've found so far is £64 but should get it cheaper with a bit more searching. I paid £23 for the back box on Ebay delivered to my door. Buy the clamps in the local motor factors they are a pound cheaper than Ebay or other places.
Geoff.
Hmmm... I didn't know about that, thanks for the tipalut:
The band-clamp I mentioned is one that goes around the silencer section of the backbox and has the two hooks attached that fit onto the exhaust mounting points.... so if that clamp fails then the backbox is free to just drop down!
In my case it has rusted through on one side, but there is still enough of the band remaining to just about stop the backbox from dropping right down onto the road.
I've just tied some steel wire around it to hold the backbox in place until I get hold of a new backbox.
