posting this separately as it may help others searching in future, as the cars get older.
My diagnoses have come on re. getting the seat belt warning extinguished.
I'm now suspecting that there is no problem in any of the underseat wiring, as:
1. wipers on constant causes the siren to stop completely (warning light stays on) while wipers are on
2. wipers intermittent causes the siren to continually re-start its lowest setting of sound.
3. when wipers off, seat belt warning goes through its three levels of sound and then siren stops after 3 minutes or so.... while light stays on. Just hope you don't need to clear the screen for any reason!
Do these suggest to anyone searching for earth or common wire breaks? I'm going to go through the battery shutdown now home, and look for obvious wire breaks in engine bay.
