I have never seen this option before (maybe I need to look harder) but did not realise that there was a 7 seat option for the mark one. Having seen how the seats are arranged, I am not sure that I would put my nearest and dearest in there over any distance!

Haha, brilliant post. Are they leagal because they have seatbelts? To think about it, your fudged from any angle in a crash... a rear shunt and your a goner, a front impact and your upper body/neck will leave your legs behind!

I am fairly sure they were outlawed altogether in new cars from 2006. I reckon you would actually be better off in an accident without seat belts if you were unfortunate enough to be sitting on those things. Having a lap belt sitting sideways does not bear thinking about in a smash.
