Does it need a gasket , some of them do not have a gasket just a bead of silicon. As your cover does not have a slot for a gasket ridge I think it should just be a bead of silicon.
Just clean it off and apply some silicon and let it go off then fit it

It's strange. Haynes refers to a rubber seal being correctly sited? But then you would expect a recess like there is on my petrol model?

thanks lads,went down local auto shop ,told him had gasket rseated 4 times and still bad leak
he gave me the black rtv silicone,and it appeares to have stopped leaking completly[after a 15 mile run]
just gotta replace about 30 block pavers now,cheers steve
