Broken into
#1
I was broken into on Tuesday night and the little s***'s wrenched out the drivers door lock and bent out some of the lock cut out on the door its self.

I have had a quote for the replacement of the door (apparantly a strenghening bar was split or broken), painting of the door and blending in (its a metalic silver) and a replacement lock to match my original key (this could take 2 weeks!)
Total cost £1050.00!!!!

This is through my insurance and my XS for malicus damage is £450.

My 1st question is is the price quoted, £1050 a fair one?

Surely the door can be repaired for a fraction of the price.

I realise the insurance approved garage needs to guarantee the work hence the suggestion of a new door and lock and the price!

What would you do??

The final nail in the coffin is that £1000 worth of tools were stolen and my insurance wasnt ample enough to cover me :-(

If I went down the insurance route surely my renewal premium would be sky high when it comes around. So is it worth it to fork out £450 plus eventually a higher renewal premium??

Get a door from the scrappers, hopefully silver - £100

Thanks, I did think of the scrap yard but I have an electric mirror switch and electric window motor. By the time I have sourced a good door and matched the colour and changed over all the gubbins I may aswell pay the £450 xs and hope that my renewal isnt going to sting me.

Anyone know what sort of price a new door from Citroen might cost? Just so I can justifie the cost involved.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your troubles, been there myself in a Hi-Ace.
Still getting up regularly to check van in night, even with solid disc lock and protected Hasp with a steel bulkhead and reversed into corner and turn wheels to wall so they have to break steering lock to move it forwards to get to doors.
2 vans done in my road at 6.30pm last week.
These scum bags think its a business, don't let em beat you down!
