Bump stops and shock absorbers.
#1
While replacing the fuel filter I noticed that one of bump stops was hanging off. The metal disk/cup the rubber slides into has rusted through. I can easily spot replacement stops online struggling a bit more with the fitting thingy (cup).

I don't suppose anyone knows the proper name for the bit I am looking for by any chance?

Another question if I may. Is it possible to fit the shock absorbers from the 800kg payload berlingo onto my 1,8 petrol multispace. Although I m not exceeding the total payload the rear of the car is sitting very low when loaded up with 400kg. Would this help or am I asking too much from the old girl?

What year are we talking about?

If I recall all berlingos are fitted with torsion bars on the rear axle not shocks.

And yes it is possible just swap the axles.

It is a 98, I thought that I saw shock absorbers under there. At the risk of being completely wrong. I thought the torsion bar was the 'spring' and the shock absorber stops it acting like a trampoline. Happy to be corrected of course.

I was thinking I may be better off adjusting the torsion bar so it doesn't sit so low when loaded up. However it has to be a nasty job on a car of that age. Was hoping swapping the absorbers may help but thinking about it I am not so sure.

The torsion bar or in some case's the spring is the shock absorber's and what a lot of people call the shock absorber is called the damper hope that help's

Be quicker and easier to swap axles,

Remove wheels
Remove exhaust
Clamp and Remove brake line from back of drum
Remove handbrake cable
Undo the four bolts that hold the rear axle on (carefully as its heavy)

Reverse to refit (don't forget to bleed the rear brakes)

If I've missed anything feel free to add In

Good point, been looking at the price for a reconditioned axle. It was nothing like as bad as I thought.

There were shock absorbers on our old 2002 1.4. I've replaced them.
