Does my berlingo need a service?
#1
Hi All

I have recently bought a 2003 berlingo 1.9 diesel, it has covered 53k miles, last service was at 50k miles, but that was feb 2012. It has been parked up for quite a long time due to the previous owner erm.....having a long holiday from driving!, but apparently it was occassionally started up and had very short runs by another driver. I just wanted to know if it needs a service because its almost a year ago since the last one, even though its not done that much mileage during that time.

The car seems brilliant and runs well, starts up smoothly when its been used within a few hours or so, but seems to judder a bit on cold start ups,

thanks
Tommy

Wouldn't hurt to change the oil and filter - be sure to use a compatible oil if it has a DPF.

Also, flush the brake fluid thoroughly - syringe out the reservoir, gently refill with new bottle of DOT4 fluid then bleed 100-150ml at all corners. You need to safety wire the load compensating valve open on the rear beam to be fully open when doing this. Remember to cut off the safety wire after! I can assure that if you don't, it makes for interesting brakes as the car will lock all four quite readily...

Was it a holiday from driving or a holiday in one of her majestys hotels?

With an '03 keeping a Full Service History isnt really worth the expense anymore so some basic home maintenance will do just fine.
Like addo says, oil and filters plus the brake fluid as its had so little use

Both Ron-a disturbing experience-delivering bulk animal feeds to a open prison farm on moorlands just outside Lancaster.

Wondering all the way home if there was a stowaway or two like in the Porridge film.
