ENGINE SWAP

sup folks iam thinking changing the engine in my 2002 2.0 hdi for a smaller engine like the 1.4 hdi my vans only used as a run around for going camping and stuff and looking to bring the cost of running it down would this be a straight fit all the electrics ecu bsi full loom

Given a choice, I wouldn't do it. I just replaced the original JWY w1900 engine with a JWZ engine,  and it works beautifully
Don't forget that it is a relatively heavy car and I'm afraid you won't like the performance you'll get. Technically, you probably will need anothe version of ecu, the bsi is more of a switching unit than acontrol unit.  Not much of surprize there.

even if you can sort the electronics youre going to spend loads of money doing the work,  youll have a modified vehicle so will have hassle every year  insuring it, at the end of the day it probably wont be any more economical to run in real life driving conditions.
even if you get marginal improved economy how long will it take to recoup the cost of the conversion? engine, parts labour ... 2k plus?
in short i think its a daft idea

learning to drive economically with your existing engine will cost nothing and save money from day one.
