Hi all
New here and new to the berlingo mechanical know-how too, i hope it's ok to join the this thread rather than opening a new one...

Yesterday my 03 1.4 developed a problem with gears/clutch - when the engine is on : 1 and 2 are just impossible to use, 3 and reverse ok - stiff but go in , 4 and 5 no probs.
With engine off all available, so had to off/start the engine on every red light to select the 1st gear - strangely from there 2nd was grindingly available too.
Could it be relevant that in last 2-3 months van was used rather occasionally? When first bought this van (2yrs ago) it had little stiffness on 5&R but that improved completely within 2-3 months of driving.

Please help - any suggestions welcomed and appreciated
Tom

Hi Tom and welcome

My first thought is the clutch cable. These are a weak spot and could explain the symptoms.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Remove ALL rods (big and small), including gearchange stick.
Clean from rust and dirt, and then lubricate with litium grease all joints. Sometimes it's help.

I had similar done with my 306, the linkage was freed off, cleaned up and lubed with copper-grease. No further problems. If you haven't the time or inclination to strip the linkage down then a liberal squirting around with penetrating oil is next best. Worth trying before delving deeper into troubleshoot for clutch cable/clutch etc
