[Engine] EGR-Turbo-Injectors ?
#1
Ok Hi, my name is Simon New here looking for some friendly advice.

I Have a 2003 2.0 HDI Partner Combi (I know wrong badge but to the best of my knowledge thats the only major difference)

It has 130,000miles on the clock and has had reasonable regular services

The symptoms:

Reduced mpg to 46-48 when driven very carefully (65max on motorway)

Occasional, 2 per journey surges around 2.0 krpm, I get 2 seconds of "boost" then it subsides back to where it was.

From reading around the EGR valve sometimes sticks (open?) and can cause problems.

Anyway what are you thoughts , do i need to worry, can I take moderate action eg redex to solve ?

I believe you can buy plates to blank off the EGR valve. You could try it and see what happens. It might affect the emmissions slightly however.

Security system should not fail safe!

Firstly, welcome to the Partner owners club - we do let the Berlinguists in though !

Have you have it "read" for any fault codes? That should be your first action as it can be difficult to diagnose otherwise.

Having said that, the EGR can stick open. This would cause a lack of boost. You can buy cans of cleaner to spray into your inlet which claim to clean it, not much more difficult to take it off though. Then you can either do without and make or buy some blanking plates or clean it up and put it back. If you choose to do without it the MIL will show and you may get the occasional limp mode, but you economy may improve marginally, it will feel nicer to drive and don't worry about emissions.

Service is due now.
change all filters -exc fuel that`s ok for 25k miles-and oil every 6000 miles.clean the egr valve-don`t take it off or blank it as the vehicle shall give you more false info later on or put you on limp home mode.and emissions will be high.mpg will also suffer due to inefficient fuel
measurement by the ecu.
now and then accelerate up to 75-85 when conditions allow to spew out the gunk inside the engine fuel system as most moderately used diesels
suffer from this.
keep your scheduled oil and filter changes you`ll be ok for hundreds thousands more.my previous berlingo did 537.000-never an issue.present on 310.000 -turbo blown but sorted .hoping to hit 1 mil miles on this one...see if it happens!
good luck.
