My 1.4 petrol Multispace has an intermittent misfire, accompanied by a high idle speed (~1100rpm). The car starts from cold OK, but can be difficult to start if it has been running & is re-started after standing for a short period. I'm thinking of changing the simple things first, such as plugs & leads. Is there a common problem that produces this fault?

Have you checked for any fault codes to give you a clue?
Could be any of the ignition / injection / fuel components without narrowing it down from reading the faults.

Need to get it checked as soon as poss because the missfiring is going to damage the cat. How old is the O2 sensor?

My (1.6) started doing something similar recently. It turned out to be a faulty coil pack. Get the fault codes read sooner rather than later.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Thanks for the advice guys. Presumably it needs to go to a garage with the correct software to get the fault codes, rather than making them appear in the LCD dispay on the dash or similar?
