Jim and Tracey, I can highly recommend Mallorca. We usually take the ferry across from Barcelona to Palma. Lots to see and do. We've found public transport is fine for playing tourist. Be sure to head over to Sóller. Beautiful harbor town.

We went to Mallorca last year by air and hired a car from Palma airport. Problem now arises that both of us need to use a mobility scooter as neither of us can walk very far. This was the main reason we chose the Berlingo over a C3 Picasso as there is quite a bit more space for the two scooters. I find difficulty with flying due to having been hospitalised in Spain with 'fluid in the lung' so we intend to take the Berlingo to Mallorca on the ferry from Barcelona. Also as Tracey does by far the majority of the driving, she is far happier driving our own car rather then a hired car.
I agree that Soller is a good place to visit - looking forward to another visit!
I guess we will keep everyone informed of our travels as we did with the Corsica trip.
