[HOW TO] Change bulbs on Multi-function Display Unit
#21
The bulbs behind heater controls are the same.
Changing to LED here is not as successful as the beam is too focussed. (Even if you file the ends, as posted earlier.)
Sticking to standard filament bulbs is better here. IMHO.

Great piece of work; I need to do mine now.
So frustrating driving in the dark with no radio display!

They are called capless bulbs, and iirc they should be 12V 1.2w: e.g.

They are either T5 or T10...... I would think T5.

Check out this eBay page:

I have bought LEDs from the Hong Kong sellers and they work fine. (and it's where the British sellers get theirs, only they have a 1000% mark-up!)

Remember! Capless lamps can be fitted either way around and LEDs only work one way, so it's advisable to test the lamp before re-assembly if possible.

cheers for the info.
Im going to change the interior T5 bulbs from orange to blue to match my head unit, the colours just clash with each other. i carnt change the Sony head units colour so it will have to be the dash lights.

what do u think? SMD LED's or standard LED's.
Im thinking SMD's will be to bright and dont think they dim like standard LED's

do i want push fit or twist fit ? ? ?

I think you'll find the bulbs are the standard white and it's the plastic lens
over the display that's orange.
All T5 bulbs are push fit.

ohhh no i hope that's not the case. ill order some bright blue T5's and give it a go to see if a bright blue will shine thru the orange lens.

If you're handy and the lens is orange you could simply change the lens.
I'd go to my local stage/band equipment shop and buy a blue spot light gel
and make one up from that.

Brilliant reading, just a couple of questions.
On mine you can only see part of the numbers and letters, would changing the bulbs fix this or do i need a replacement unit, also do i just force the cover off the dash? seems very tight.
Many thanks
Sean
