Replace the spill hoses (braided hose)
Do them all as they all perish at the ends. Pull it off and you will see the rubber has cracked. As a temp fix (and if hose is long enough) cut off 10mm from each end and refit.
This will be a new van by the time you have finished

You shouldn't get air in through the spill hose. You may have poor spray pattern, or hosing from an injector. If you take them to a diesel specialist, they can test them quite cheaply. I would do it for you, but as you say, I'm daahn saff

The write up i did was for the 1.6hdi they are known for injectors chuffing the 1.9 you have are screw in injectors and generally dont suffer from that problem.

Well chaps Ive changed the hoses and the little blanking cap...cleaned around the injector and the injector body...refitted everything then pushed the hand primer a few times ( not sure if this was needed)..then tried to start up...it took a few turns of the key then it fired up...I checked the hoses...no leaks at all and engine running nice and smooth....no smoke....well maybe a little...then the engine started to miss a little...I blipped the throttle and it started to smoke again...I checked the hoses..all bone dry...but the base of the injector where it goes into the block had fuel round it..I think its run down from the top of the injector (not the supply rail) where the next nut is...I have not tried to tighten it as I dont have a spanner to fit the large nut yet ...I soon will have...and deep socket to match ?....what I didnt do was look to see if any bubbles were coming from the base of the injector...if thats possible...Im going to clean it as best I can without taking everything apart again and watch where the fuel is coming from and see if bubbles appear...having no knowledge at all regarding injectors Im taking things slowly....only because they cost a small fortune...but on the bright side of things...Im learning something new...and Old Smokie isnt so smokie anymore..it will be a brand new van with a "W" plate on it... ha ha
Regards,
Steve...

You need a 17mm spanner for the injector pipe nut, and a special socket for the injector itself. If you are saying fuel is leaking from the body of the injector, then it needs overhauling by a diesel specialist. If that is the case, then you might as well get all 4 done.

It's not a fuel rail (common rail) as it has a mechanical pump. The HDI's have a fuel rail and I think you are confusing the 2. Don't try and fix the injector yourself (unless it is a loose pipe nut) The tiniest bit of dirt can fubar it completely.
They also need to be shimmed correctly so the "break" pressure is correct and spray pattern needs checking- All specialist stuff really.
