Lowering Berlingo torsion
#1
Hi guys. Ive been struggling to remove rear torsion. I got the front one moving but cannot get rear to budge. Used a slide hammer etc but no joy.

Anyone local to kettering area that does them or anyone have any ideas

Both sides on mine were a complete B*sta*d.

In the end the only method that worked for me was to carefully heat the female side splined area, trying not to damage any plastics or rubber seals, with an oxy/acetylene (or plumbers torch) and let it cool.
Soak the splines again in WD40, find a 4Lb or heavyer lump hammer, a drift that's a slightly smaller size than the torsion bar splines and try beat the torsion bar through from either end with brute force. You'll know when you've broken the siezure as the hammer blow noises become duller.
Then work the bar back and forth, every so often spraying the splines to clean off rust cake, until eventually it'll push through.

Once you've freed them off, wire wheeled them clean, copper greased them, they go in and out again easy!

Not sure how far from Kettering Dorking is but a fella called Kris is highly recommended on the 306 forums I use.

Must admit I didnt even attempt mine, Let a local french car specialist do it instead.

Ended up dropping the entire rear beam assembly out on mine, and taking big swings on a 15lb sledge hammer before mine came out, and that was only on the subframe end.

Torsion bars are hateful things, I'm never touching them again.

Dorking to Kettering is about 110 miles.
I've messaged KrisB as he is close enough for me to benefit by using him.
He also has some pretty good testimonials....I'm impressed.
