MPG
#1
I have a 58 diesel XTR and have just completed a 950mile trip from Carlisle to mid Essex, some touring around then a return trip back home. The trip down of about 290 miles was at an average of about 60mph and the return trip of about 320 miles back up the M6 was at around 70, touching 80 at times with the remaining mileage at fairly low speeds. With 4 up and luggage I have recorded 54.3MPG, the return journey pushing it down from 55.6mpg. Not bad I think.

I have noticed that at 65mph the fuel economy is excellent.
If you sit at 75mph (officer) it seems to drink fuel.
(Seems obvious; but you know what I mean?)

You are dead right Martin.I did an economy run from Bavaria to Dunkirk on A roads where possible.I hasten to add that I allowed an extra 1/2 day for this great scientific experiment.I drove at 55MPH where allowed.Accelerated gently & avoided braking by forward observation.I drove from Rosenheim to Dunkirk on 1 tank with computer reading 72.5 MPG.Apart from the time(& 1 extra overnight) it was a very pleasant trip.Am I sad or what?

All for a bit of science, Ron.Confusedtudy:
I am usually in a rush to get to places (same day delivery), but can take my time on way back. Made sure I sat at 65mph all the way back from Glasgow (exactly 250 miles). How hard is that? Very!! Need cruise control...
Next time I am determined to stick at 60mph, see what that does. Any slower than that you tend to p**s the truckers off.Confusedillyme:

I agree,I passed a Lexus (61reg) doing 50 mph on the M4 with all the trucks passing it.I don't call that particularly safe.
