Mk 3 Trafficmaster power supply
#1
Vans will have a power lead up to the dashboard at the rhs of the steering wheel.
The head unit of the satnav uses this.
I need to know if the unit powers up on the ignition key.
Ive moved house and cant find mine to try it ,although Im pretty sure it did.

Reason is, Ive got a dashcam up alongside the rearview mirror with a mini-usb extension lead tucked up into and along the visor shelf and down inside the edge of the upholstery of the door pillar. The socket then pairs up with the Trafficmaster plug.
Its all fantasticly neat and runs the camera as expected so Im well pleased -mostly.

The problem is that it won't switch from the ignition key so I have to remember to un/plug it each time which goes against the grain of dashcam religeon.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Interested in this, thought I can't help with your issue...

What interface is the traffic master plug, USB? Where exactly is it? It sounds like I can hook up any USB device to this power source?

Are you saying it's always live?

Yes its mini-usb and its tucked into the upholstery at the bottom of the drivers door frame where it meets the dashboard.
You could use an adaptor to make it any other variant or gender ebay is awash with them.
So yes you could power/charge any usb device with it.
I cant see how the Trafficmasters satnav head unit would be allowed to remain on without the ignition switched on though-thats my issue.
Looks like Ill have to go back to plan A and use the switched courtesy light feed.
It is on my to do list.

Certainly would but I have Scottish ancestry, therefore a lead I already had spare and 90 seconds installing it was the preferred option.Wink

The courtesy lamp contains three live feeds, one of which is aledgedly switched with the key.
