Hi, Please can I have some help Ref my Berlingo van,
Ok - So it wont start at all, It turns over but just wont fire into life?
I have used a multimeter and on good instructions tested voltage off battery - fine, voltage on glow plugs when relay producing voltage- all ok circa 10.4v, I have just checked fuel filter, that is new & is pristine inside of there also,
Again on specialist over-the-phone advice I pulled the hose with 2 white clips off the fuel filter housing, I was told it should have fuel pumping through when turning the key..... I have nothing coming out??
So I was then told it 'could' be the fuel pump in the tank, either dead or blocked somewhere??
CAN IT be a fuel pump relay? Do they have one?? Where if so... Im attempting the less costly things first..
Im no mechanic and have no idea what to check next, Or how to check if the pumps faulty,
Can anyone offer me advice on my next step??
I actually cant move the thing to get it anywhere at present,
I had this earlier on today, what was the battery giving you on the multimeter?,mine was giving out 11.62v on the meter and was deemed to be flat, so just to test it I got a known good battery and that started the car with no problem.
Would be tempted to get hold of a good battery first and try that .

is the fuel pump in the tank in a mk. 1 berlingo???. I know the later models have a pump in the tank but I dont think yours has.
if it is a XUD engine the fuel pump is built into the fuel injector pump Is there a priming bulb in the fuel line near the top offside side of the engine? . If so take off those pipes again and pump the bulb and see if fuel comes out. If so connect them up again and try to start it. be aware that the system will probally need to bleed itself which can take awhile. If your battery is failing this will show it up.
Hi, if you PM me your Vin No. I'll be able to tell you which type of engine you have and may be give you some more pointers.
Does your van have an immobilizer fitted?
On the dash does a yellow light show up with a key symbol in it? cratch:
Has the problem been building up over a bit of time or was it a 'suddenly one morning' affair?
Happened to me on a 1.9D in a ZX, suddenly one morning, and it turned out to be a broken wire to the stop solenoid on the fuel injection pump.
The real experts on here can correct me if I'm 20 years out of date and totally irrelevant!
Good luck

Hi, Your engine is a 1.9 DW8 with a Lucas injection pump.
As CandR has suggested you need to check your shut off solenoid.
See the picture below. This will be slightly different to yours as the valve (Which is Arrowed) will be covered by an aluminum casting (anti theft deterant). when you find this you need to see if it has 12volts on it with the ignition on. If you have 12volts and it still doesn't start, check the Resistance to earth of the valve with it disconnected. If the resistance is high or none existent then the valve is duff. Alternatively you could turn the ignition on and listen for the click of this but make sure you are listening to the valve and not any thing else.
Let us know what you find.alut:
