New boy saying hello
#1
Interested in buying a berlingo so searching through the threads. Thought it would be best to join up so here I am.
I've owned quite a few citroens in the past ( way back) GS, GSA BX.
Need a van and found you lot.
Had to laugh a little at the thread 'petrol or Diesel' from 2011. Was wondering what all those who championed the 1.6hdi thought about their choice now and if they ever ran them for many years without blowing up a turbo?
I'm looking for a petroL berlingo van but finding it difficult.
Cheers

Cheers jed clamp it.
I agree to a point about only reading about ones that have blown but I have two friends who also have had them go. Cost £2000 to put right and I can't take the chance as havnt got that sort of cash to hand.
They drive lovely though but I'm scared of them. If I could afford a new one I'd probably take the risk but 2nd hand no way. I only do 10k a year with a lot of country single track lanes involved. Think the dpf would soon clog.

Hi  Big Grin

Remember earlier 1.6hdi's did not have a DPF on the lower HP versions, i have an 08 just like that - it's a keeper.

You can get away with one of these doing low mileage without problems. But dont worry too much about the DPF as they dont seem to give the problems on Berlingos that they do on other vehicles.

But i agree there is a worry with the newer diesels - i was a diesel fitter when i worked (on the big stuff) and IMO the emissions regs have turned a simple but brilliant engine into a complex nightmare. Like discussed okay if doing 20-30k a year but below that the petrol is starting to look favorite. Im sad to say but my next one will have to be petrol as i only do about 6k a year now.

Im not going to get into the 1.6hdi turbos as there is nothing to discuss as long as serviced correctly.

Cheers Polar.
R1 or 6 you have there?
I've searched on this forum for more long term reliability reports on 1.6hdi but without success.
If other owners can assure me that long term these engines are very reliable then I'll listen to you guys and seriously consider one. Looking for a decent petrol one as turned into a nightmare. Hardly any about.
Regarding servicing the diesel is it just a case of decent oil and fitter change at a sensible mileage? Ive always done my own oil and filter changes at 6k on all vehicles ( except motorbikes as that was always 3k).

Buying petrol isn't easy as there aren't many vehicles out there ...... so .... unless you are lucky or you are someone who likes to stir things up ???

.....go for diesel .. hmmmm ... Turbo !!! .... yikes ! actually no yikes involved

Hdi reliability is excellent and is down to good servicing so your regime of 6k would be most agreeble - just use the correct oil .. Total Inneo Quarz ... have a search ...

Oil and filter plus fuel filter is essentially all the Hdi needs.
