 Just bought a December 2005 Peugeot Partner Quicksilver. I have fancied one for about 15 years but Landrover Defenders always ruled that heart overcame head. Now I have both and I'm very happy!
Mine has less than 60K with a 2.0 Hdi. The interior is tatty, but it is mechanically and bodily A1. The forum has already solved the slow starter problem , I'm looking forward to fettling the interior. Great forum.

What was ur slow starting problem?

It was the starter motor, they apparently get lazy with age. I know just how they feel. I think the standard starter is 1.4Kw, the replacement is 1.7Kw, if KW is the correct terminology. Any way, the new starter spins the engine about 10 times faster than the old one, which means the correct cranking pressure for starting is achieved. Or something like that. Anyway it now starts instantly. The new one cost £74:99 on ebay, delivered next day.

I had this out with a so called auto electrition. He tried telling me it was glow plugs or relay,but I read loads about bad cold starting on hdi engines and most people telling me starter motor, but thinking he should know his stuff but he didn't.any way I got a starter motor upgraded one.and bang fires straight up..good I didn't listen to him,he wanted to put separate switch to feed glow plugs.ect,and at the end of the day I would still have the same problem on cold mornings.

We had the same problem with a Defender TD5, very slow cranking, expert said dodgy battery, even though everything measured spot on. After changing battery, earth leads, starter leads, connections etc., eventually fitted a new high output starter. Perfect instant start.

What sort of starter motor does the 2.0 engine use ?

On my 1.9D the motor had an epicyclic gearbox on the end so when it became noticeably slower ( you get used to the gradual decline in speed so don't notice it ) I merely removed it and washed the gears and shafts with petrol and put it all back together - result - running as fast as you could wish for and started on the merest touch of the key.
This free " repair " was made a few years back now and still good.

Just saying this as it can be all too easy to condemn a starter motor to the scrap heap.

Not sure what starter just got it of eBay.2l hdi upgraded one.I took old starter off striped it bushes was well down,so didn't even bother messing with it,£70,odd quid for new one,didn't think that was bad price for knowing the van will start on freezing days and get me to work..
