OIL for HDi engines.
#1
I have posted this elsewhere on the forums but I feel it deserves
a thread of it's own.
Both of my local Citroen workshops use this for 1560cc HDi engines. But it's almost £50/5 litre to buy from them!
So Ol'Jeffers had a look around the interweb and found this:

Much kinder to the old wallet!!

That is a good price indeed. I get mine from a German site for £22.72 at current exchange rates but that doesn't include the £4.23 shipping while your source has free shipping.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but was I wrong in thinking that I was supposed to use Total Quartz 9000 5W/40 engine oil in my HDi - rather than Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W30?

When the 1.6 HDi motor was introduced the most suitable oil was indeed Quartz 9000 5W/40....but things have appeared to move on
and with the introduction of Quartz Ineo 5W/30, both of my local
Citroen workshops use it as a more suitable lubricant.

What is the difference between Quartz Ineo ECS and Ineo MC3? Both 5w 30. Slight difference in price.
And anyone had experience with Carlube?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...K:MEWAX:IT

Have researched most oils for HDi (Total, Castrol, Mobil etc.)
All appear to be between £40 - £50.
How do we choose...

Both the same price here (and nothing like £50!!): http://www.nielsencdg.co.uk/acatalog/5w-...e_Oil.html ...and scroll down.

To be perfectly honest any oil that has the correct specification
is likely to be suitable for the engine. However, people being what they are, like to use a name that they're familiar with and trust or they may go for a perfectly acceptable 'bargain basement' oil. Being a Citroen 'newbie' I made enquiries with the people who actually service and repair them on a daily basis and that is the information I was given. You pays your money.......
