Parcel shelf
#1
Hi
Anyone know if a solid rear shelf can be fitted in a mk 2 instead of the roller one?
Thanks

Cut a piece of plywood, cover it in black felt and hammer it into place with a few 4" nails?

It's not a parcel shelf. It has never been designed to hold anything at all. It's a cover to hide your trash under. And having anything laying on top of it, if it was capable of sustaining any weight at all is dangerous as any stuff with any weight at all placed there will become projectiles during an emergency stop...
Incidentally, we call it a 'Hat shelf' here in Norway. Hats are probably the heaviest objects that can safely be transported on these shelves, in any car.
(Womens' hats not included... )

Yes it does.

I went from a folding solid one to a roller one on my mrk 2.

Was the folding one an original piece?
(Never seen one like that here in Norway)

Yes, I got my car from new with the folding solid shelf in it.

I prefer the roller one, so I bought one from a scrap dealer and took the original one out. The mk 2 is designed to take either.

The folding one fits into the molded plastic recesses.

Mine also had a folding one when I bought it. Unfortunately it had sagged (heavy hats?) so I replaced it with a roller, much better.
Somedays you're the pigeon, Somedays you're the statue.

Ha ha!

I have a proper Citroen mesh to secure the rear area, so no problem with projectiles.

It is to try to raise the dog cage to that level so my jack Russell can see out of the windows.

So a folding one like I had in my Mk1 will fit?

And he has got a hat.

Thanks, Ian
