Has anyone experienced ESP / ABS faults on a Berlingo by fitting larger wheels I rang today to purchase some tyres and was told that it would make my car illegal fitting 18" wheels and it would fail the MOT is this correct?

I guess the question is what are you hoping to gain by changing to 18"
MkIII VTR 1.6hdi Modutop, Climate Pack, 16" Alloys

absolutely no problems with 18s on my van, the tyres are within recommended size over original to retain overall diameter, ive fitted XL extras load tyres well within the recommended weight, my insurance company where quite happy with this, and whoever told you fitting 18s will fail the mot is talking rubbish, fitting wrongly fitted 18s could ie fouling inner/outter body work, I fitted 18s because I personally thing they look better, its a big slab sided van, anything smaller looks to small to me

Ok Guys
I have got to the bottom of things
What the un knowledgeable miss informed tyre salesman was trying to say was my vehicle uses TPMS
Tyre pressure montoring system !!!
He belived the sensors in the wheels were used for the stability control system!!!!!
And changing the wheels would upset tge ecu and it would randomly apply my brakes at high speed and subsequently i would have to have the car re programmed to suit!!!!!
Im an engineerr and was sceptical of his recommendation and advice so ive done some research.
Citroen do not use the TPMS sensors for anything other than tyre pressures it is a Direct TPMS so does not affect the stability control you just have to buy some alloy adapter valves so you can swap your sensors.
The system he is confused with is indirect TPMS which is fitted to BMWs and a lot of other German vehicles that uses the abs system to keep an eye on the rolling radius and as the tyre deflates  it seses a reduced diameter of the tyre thease systems do need to be re callibrated when you fit different wheels and are very sensative to change.
