Rear Axel seized
#1
I posted some time ago about a rear axel problem on my 2011 old shape Berlingo as the rear wheels were toed in at the top. As it happens I had a Berlingo that was being broken and as the rear wheels were bolt up right I decided to change the axels around.

However the trailing arms (I think that's what they are called) appear to be seized. The van does go down when the rear is loaded but they aren't free enough to move up and down under normal conditions and the rear of the van is just bouncing up and down on the tyres.

Is there anythi g that can be done here is this axel also a lost cause??

That's it, I'm dumping out the axel at the weekend and trying another one.

I actually drilled a hole high up on this axel and fulled it with desel

*diesel thinking it would free out, put no it hasn't. The arms do move up and down when the van is loaded out but are free enough to operate normally.

seems like the arms are moving on the torsion bar but the bearing is seized where the arm is fitted to the axle itself

What does the van drive like? Is the suspension uncomfortable?

If you try "bouncing" on the back of a Berlingo it will bounce due to the set up of the rear suspension, the van actually moves back and forth due to the pivoting of the rear trailing arms when the suspension is compressed.

If the suspension is uncomfortable when driving then you have a problem.
Those in the know..... Go Berlingo!

I'd start by whipping the dampers of and bouncing it, seized dampers will do what you describe, if the bearings on the trailing arms were seized the van wouldn't drop with weight in it
