Roof monted "centre console" thingy - which models have it?
#1
Hi all Smile

Still looking around for exactly which one to buy, I saw in a car park a nice 2006 Berlingo Desire model (in a nice green colour). The owner was not around, but I (cheekily) had a peer around it. It had a fancy roof mounted console thing (at the front) that had storage space and lights etc. I though "Ooo, I like that" it would come in very handy for gadgets etc.

Question, is that standard equipment on the Desire only, or do other models have it ?

btw, Google was of little help on this occasion.

Do you mean the Modutop storage? If so any Berlingo fitted with a modutop will have one.

Ah, so from that I'm guessing it's not a standard fitment across the range (or even standard to the "Desire")?

I suppose when buying a used Berlingo, one cannot be that choosy Wink
I don't half like that "Modutop" thing though Smile

It may have been stansard on the Desire I cannot remember. One minor word of caution is to check the hinges on the rear facing cupboards, either side of the air vents you can see in the photo to make sure the hinges are not broken.

The modutop was a must item for me, I wouldn't have bought a Berlingo without it.

The glass panels let in a lot of light, the air vents for the rear passengers are helpfull and the storage is a bonus.
I have removed the rear facing cupboard to give enough height for the bikes but am keeping it safe in case I ever sell it.

OK, so it something I too would like, but now I know what they are called I have been able to do a little research. It seems apparently they can be prone to leaking rain water into the car. I also read that removing - repairing - replacing them is such a big job that many dealers won't do it.

So, I guess it means, If buying a used Desire, check carefully for signs of rain water ingress around your "Modutop".

I believe the incidence of water leaks is very low.My last Berlingo,57 reg,had no problems. The B9 modutop is not a patch on the M59.I'm disappointed with it.

I agree 100% with Ron, my 03 M59 never had any water ingress in my 9 years of ownership and the old style modutop was much more  usefull.

The modutop is standard on the desire model.

Mine is 12 years old and no leaking problems.
