Leaking Injector now!!
#11
(09-12-2015, 10:08 PM)Col Wrote:  It's not a fuel rail (common rail) as it has a mechanical pump. The HDI's have a fuel rail and I think you are confusing the 2. Don't try and fix the injector yourself (unless it is a loose pipe nut) The tiniest bit of dirt can fubar it completely.
They also need to be shimmed correctly so the "break" pressure is correct and spray pattern needs checking- All specialist stuff really.

Thanks Col..Im going to try and find a specialist today...my mate used to deal inToyota Estimas he was the local specialist for them so I will be ringing him at some point today after Ive checked out the pipe nut...its raining here just now so later Im going to clean the injector off and tape some tissue round the body then start the engine and watch where the fuel hits it first..before I touch the pipe nut...just for my own satisfaction...your right I am getting confused...Ive read such a lot on this van/engine its haddled my brain...info overload thats sending me off on tangents...I think a rest from it over the weekend is in order...(maybe!)...or just buy new injectors...I was quoted £70 each from ECP...cant recall the make though...does this sound about right....

Steve....

I think that my problem is now sorted (fingers crossed)..I went to see my mate..he was very busy today but he had a quick look..went "Hmmm"...then asked if I had put any injector cleaner through since doing the Glow plugs (I had told him what had happened)...so I said I hadnt as I had put BG244 through when I first got the van...a full tank of fuel ago...he went and got some "Millers Eco Max"...put 2 shots in the tank... then a half shot 250ml into the fuel filter...then told me to go for a good run out up and down the motorway...approx 20miles in total...I gave it a bit of heavy right foot and it went like a rocket...got back to his garage...no leak...no missing at low revs...ticking over nice and smooth....the proof of the pudding will be in the morning regarding the missfire on start up...but no leak...now if that is really sorted...its the gearbox oil change next...cant be anything wrong there surely Rolleyes .....as always chaps...thanks for your help and advice,
Regards,
Steve...

Thank you all very much fellas,...I went out this morning with a little trepidation...fired up the van and had the normal (for now) bit of smoke...but no missing on tickover...went for a 5 mile drive and stopped at our local ASDA to pick up a few thing...opened the bonnet and there was no sign of any leaking fuel at all Big Grin ...tickover was nice and smooth, no little blips...nothing...the smoke issue is the valve stem oil seals that I shall sort out in the spring along with belts...waterpump..egr blanking plate and anything else in that area whilst its stripped down as per advice given by your good selves earlier,
Next week is gearbox oil...should I put in Slick 50...molyslip?..not sure...I have used them in the past..many years ago on old transit vans,...and flush out the cooling system..as the fresh antifreeze I put in the other week is full of rust...but its cleaned it out if nothing else...and on a very nice note...look what the wife bought me for Christmas             ....very chuffed indeed...be a shame to get them dirty..ha ha...

You can use molyslip wont do any harm - the cooling system can alway benefit from a flush out before re-antifreezing.
