Sump needs re seal?
#1
Last Citroen service found '57 1.6hdi sump leaking - needs resealing (40k miles).
Quoted £240
a) Is this common (leaking sump not price...)
b) Could it be something else masquerading as leaking sump
c) Aux/alternator belt worn - any connection

Hell of a price to remove the undertray, drain the oil, drop the sump pan and fit a new gasket
and/or sealant. Up on the ramp it shouldn't take more than an hour for someone who's done it before.
Have a ring round the local Citroen repairers and get a price from them. My Citroen repairer would only
charge £55 more to change the cambelt/water pump.

Hmm - I also need to change the cambelt for which they've quoted an extra £295. Are you saying both jobs done together should cost £290ish in total..?

You're talking main dealer prices. They'll charge £100 per hour if you're lucky. You should be able to find somewhere that will charge half that price per hour. Look round for Citroen specialists. There are at least 3 that I know of in my area so they aren't that hard to find.

Admittedly I don't know how much a cambelt change costs on a Berlingo but on my BX and Xantia you were looking at £140 from a local garage. and at least double that from a main dealer.

Independent garage down the road from me charged £80 to drop the pan, weld a new plug on and change the oil and filter Smile

Thanks for these suggestions. I have indeed already spoken with Cleavercars and they are very helpful.
The other one I think is not really specialist Citroen because I found them before and if you type in different makes of car you will get the same page but tailored to that make.

Most independents that are long time established companies are good. They have to be......I have a couple of excellent ones near me.
(One does my BMW motorcycle and is truly superb. He sorted out my accident claim and had the bike back to me in 10 days fully repaired!)
