[Tires & Wheels] Bit of an ebay bargain
#1
All four tyres on our 2010 XTR are near to the wear indicators after 20,000 and a few miles.Slightly dissapointed to have the OE tyres, Mich Premacy wear out so quickly. I'd swooped fronts for rears at 12,000 as the rears were wearing faster than the fronts - bit bizarre that. Vehicle is very gently driven and now shows 56mpg over the last 8,000 miles - lots of long runs mind.

I'm also in the market for a set of winter tyres, brand undecided yet so needed a set of steel rims. There is a bloke on ebay at the moment with a stack of steel rims and brand new 215/55 R16 Mich Premacy by the name of buyritesi. Got a set of four mounted and delivered for £110 a pop. Excellent service - cheaper price by a margin than my local rubber merchant. Rims are Item number: 261085616340.

I've no connection with the guy but am well pleased with the service.

Now then which winter tyre - tending towards Dunlop S4 Wintersports at the mo but at £146 a corner.....ouch!

regards

Nice deal -if only they were 15" I'd snap up a set up for the hearse.
Shocking wear rate though david- At trade-in time, the michelin energy's on my 2010 were two thirds worn at 26000,the backs were about 1/3 down.

Too right! I was all set to pop down to the local Costco to try a set of Mich Energys when this rim and tyre, mounted and delivered deal came up.

They are good tyres, I will admit, for wear rate, they run silently, and I imagine they are contributing to the fuel economy .
They are great on wet or dry tarmac but the slightest bit of frost or ice or mud, snow etc you might as well open the door and jump out for the control you get from them.
Horses for courses I suppose - out here in sticksville a tyre has to be good at everything-simply not possible

Horses for courses IMHO- I always had decent tyres on by bikes-absolutely essential
but back in the day, I fed my old bangers with remoulds:eek:
(young lad/Mk2 Escort- its big and clever to slide around evreywhere...)
Obviously with new vehicles Ive had decent tyres by default and they are good to have but for my particular use then a cheap tyre would actually be ok
I drive at speeds where Im not reliant on the tyre manufacturers expertise and some of the sites have hidden nasties like nails and sharp edges.I really dont want to wreck £400 of tyres for the sake of high speed performance Ill never use
I tend to put on a set of 'dog-ends' if Im doing repeated trips on these sites.

Some of the cheap brands can actually be surprisingly good. I would stick to european concerns and I would draw the line at Chinese tyres on anything other than a banger-simply because they are too new at the game -like Bridgestone in the '70s,apallng then but actually quite good now.

How are you getting on with the Jinyu's? Any good?

We're looking at winter tyres too.

Top ones seem to be Continental Wintercontact TS850 and Goodyear Ultragrip 8. AutoExpress do a test every year - have a search on the net...

For 15" wheels the ones above seem to be coming in at c.£88 del + fitting, or c.£100 all in.
