Mechanic friend of mine de-cat his wifes 306 (or 7?) after the turbo blew.
It is a 1.6 HDi not 2 ltr.
Went like dirt off a shovel afterwards.
He works in Saudi at moment, so can't ask him for an update.

A decat will free up a couple of HP, but nothing particularly noticeable.

On a petrol motor, as the cat often slowly fails - the difference can seem night and day.

Ignoring decats on older cars, is probably less polluting than letting cars with blocked cats waste far more fuel in less efficient conditions of combustion with a badly flowing converter.

Yes to both.

Speak to your local garage, get them to cut it out and weld in a piece of straight pipe. Make sure you get the old cat and weigh it in, it'll cover the cost of the work

Unbolt and remove the EGR whole assembly. Use the ends as templates to make up blanking plates and bolt these in place.

Neither will give outstanding gains, but they help the engine breath more easily. EGR is the most noticeable

Do take into consideration a missing cat is an MOT failure from 20th March 2013:
