electric mirrows in ice/snow
#1
Hi has anyone experienced the electric mirrows not opening because of ice/snow preventing them from working? If so do you know if they will blow a fuse if they dont open because they are frozen to, or indeed frozen open?
I had this problem this morning.

Do you mean the electric windows???

If so, I think there is some sort of cut-out device to stop the motors from stalling and burning out or blowing a fuse.

Sorry I misunderstood.
Perhaps some water has become trapped and frozen where the mirrors swivel when they fold in/out. Heve you tried spraying a bit of de-icer spray around this area????

My screenwashers have been froze up for most of the day but with running the motor, think the heat from the engine has thawed them out again

And yes, it was bloody cold this morning matey!!! Down to -17 Centigrade in some places so there are probably some brass monkeys on the loose looking for welders!!!!

thanks for reply, my concern was ....was it a design fault and if doors unlocked with wing mirrows frozen in closed position ....will it blow fuse......just wondered if french designers had considered that possibility???????
still working at moment after unfreezing them.

Perhap a little WD40 or similar would displace any trapped water but don't know how it responds/reacts with plastics so do so at your own peril

If power is being fed to the motor but the motor is being prevented from operating because mirror is frozen I would have thought it would eventually burn out the motor. Its probable tho with modern electrics that the power would be cut if resistance is felt, so it should be no problem.
