What engine ?

On 1.9d they were nylon and wore . I chopped mine out when i did the clutch - interestingly the replacements from pug ( went to pug for main shaft seal , linkage and clutch cable) were alloy and a much more solid fit.

They just pop on and off balls.

Was well worth doing and iirc less than 20quid for the pair.
thanx a lot my mucker,ye its a 1.9d,as a matter of fact i had clutch replaced yesterday and asked for linkage to be done same time,he said it didnt need doing to keep bill down,i got no prob with it ,but it is floppy and the wife wont drive it because of the what is it that needs replacing ??the rods or the balls, or do they all come in the kit??

Thanks My mucker

Hi there if you have a look at this link you can see the parts that make up the linkage
And these are the parts that usually wear out and need replacing
Its quite an easy job to do just need to get the car up on ramps for good access.
If you have a look first you will see the slop in the ball and socket joints that is probably giving you the vague gear change and know which parts you need.
Are we there yet????? No we fecking ain`t  gggggrrrrrrr
Ex 1.6hdi van now 3 seater 1.4 multispace
I replaced the long one on my nieces' Partner 2.0hdi. The old one was a bit of a pain to remove but it came off with a bit of brute force and ignorance. The new one just sat in place then pulled down and clicked on easily.
So where does this bit go then ?
Hiya, I have replaced the three rods, BE4R gearbox, but the one to look out for is the larger Ball on the bracket and the bracket wobbles on the spindle. I'm not sure if the bushes can be changed so be prepared to replace the bracket complete. Also the rod that goes back from the gear selector to the bottom of the gearstick is connected to the gearstick with a bolt, this needed to be checked / tightened or replaced. I have put some washers in mine to take up some slack..
thank you all very much indeed, i am much obliged, bit of a stupid Q it has to be in neutral while doing the job ye???
Big Grin nice to be important, more important to be nice Wink
Yes,neutral is right.

I tried to change mine at the weekend and had a nightmare - easy enough to get them off and access wasn't too bad, 1.6HDi - I could do it from the top of the engine bay with the air intake and filter box removed. It was the linkages I bought which were the problem, they didn't pop on like the originals - I needed to remove a pin on each end (needle thickness) and re-insert at arms length with grease on my fingers, by touch alone  - impossible. Managed one with a lot of cursing.

So, a bit of advice........avoid these....waste of money
