heater matrix
#1
Just throwing the feelers out,I noticed today while vacuuming the van out that passenger side carpet was damp, sure ive read that the matrix on the berlingo is a weak point, would explain the small top-ups ive done over the last month, mines a 58 plate, non aircon,1.6hdi,no electric extra's at all :-)
gonna have a search but wondered if it's gonna be easier to chuck the van at the garage and let them tackle it,do i need to go Citroen part or gfs for example, cheaper than i imagined on the bay of E but anyone used them, any help appreciated.thanks, Ian

Hi Ian are you sure its the heater matrix is the cause of the wet carpet - the door seals are known to leak on Berlingo's too!

If it is the heater matrix you could try some K-seal first it has a very high success rate it can even seal water pumps.

dont think its the door seals owing to the small top-ups,looked for small leaks, coolant marks underneath when it went for oil change but nothing visible, its had about a pint added in 8k miles this month, never tried those additives for sealing, would you advise trying that 1st while i try to find somewhere to do the job eventually,i really dont fancy ripping out the complete dash,it'll never work again with me haha and i'm captain trim-clip breaker me,no matter how much time i take pmsl

Yes the k-seal is good stuff it does what it says on the tin! You may find if it is a leak in the matrix it will seal it.

It will take time to get round the system from the header tank so give it a week.

One sign of a leaking heater matrix is a curry type smell. Its some of the antifreeze/coolant leak being evaporated on the outside of the matrix.

I'd noticed a smell, but due to the mileages i do usually with the wipers and washers on,i thought it was the washer fluid smelling :-), didnt seem to be always there,i'll try the kseal while im looking at getting it done somewhere
