It might also be worth trying to persuade the grandchildren that running around behind a car with engine running/reversing lights on isn't the best idea. You might be observant/have reversing sensors, but not everyone does. I know it'll never stop them completely, but it'll reduce the chance of them suddenly popping up. Prevention better than cure & all that.
On the MkIII, there's 4 holes in the bumper iron - I would expect the MkII has a similar arrangement - it saves quite a bit of weight without compromising the strength.
