BSI/CLOCKS ISSUES
#21
Does sound a bit strange, Confusedcratch: They might just want to correct the mileage. I would of thought they would have ask for it to be sent with the Bsi when you first enquired.
Someone else might have had experience of this.

What an absolute nightmare I've had with BBA reman, I wont go into to much detail but I certainly wont be using them again!

After A LOT of messing about, I've now been told that the bsi has no communication and BBA reman cant fix it...."idiots, why the hell do you think I sent it to you in the first place!"

So I'm back to square one and £140 lighter for a repair on a set of clocks I cant even use!

So yesterday I took a chance and bought a secondhand BSI off ebay with the same part numbers and off the same year van. It's solved a few of my problems. All my lights now work on the dash, i have preheating warning lamp, indicators work and I have mileage. I'm 100% sure this will solve my revs and speedometer but the problem now is I have the key warning lamp on as it obviously doesn't recognize my key.

Whats involved in coding the bsi to my vehicle is it just a case of changing the vin number to mine on the bsi or is it abit more difficult then that?

The BSI has to be "virginised" - this involves erasing all the previous vehicle data. It's more than can be done with a Lexia or Diag.

Your only other option is a full set of goodies - BSI, clocks, keychips, ECU off a matching engined van of about the same age. Or a new BSI - several hundred.

If you had an ECU that was permanently unlocked, the key recognition probably wouldn't matter - but I'm not 100% on this detail.

Thank you for the reply addo. My van hasn't got an ecu it's the dw8 engine with the immobilizer on the fuel pump It's the later versions DW8B that have ecu's. I spoke to a bsi specialist yesterday and he said instead of spending all that money on viginising and matching it to my vehicle just remove the immobilizer. After having a bit of a Google it seems a lot of people have gone this way about it. Apparently its got to be a Bosch pump though.

Bosch fuel pump de-immobilizing

Looks a bit of a pain but if it's going to save me a couple of hundred quid I'll give it a shot and to be honest if I have to spend any more money on it I'd be better off scraping it and buying a runner...

If you find someone with Lexia I would of thought they could code the key to the Bsi and change the Vin no. as well but I've not got my hands on one of these units yet so don't quote me.
Have sent you a PM.

I have thought about that but from what I've been reading I'll need a unique pin to be able to code the key to the bsi and to get the pin I'll need to know the vin and reg of the van the bsi came from. I've emailed the seller but had no reply yet.
