van stud for 3 years what does everyone recon it will need

i know this might sound daft but am thinking about using my brothers van (he lives in the states and doesn't use it)its a 1.9d 56reg with 80k miles  but its been stud for 3 years slowly rotting away (rust on the bonnet) here is a list of visual things that i think is up with it brakes will be seized (rust on the back ones and the front ones are the same) its green on one side (jet wash should sort that) but what else would you lot recommend me to look over to make sure its fine (the battery is charging right now it was left connected and is dead now)

I would make sure it starts before spending any money. After 3 years damp could have got into BSI / ECU or immobiliser could have lost it's memory.

true i am guessing it would be a replacement job (on witch ever had died) for the items i dont think there is an immobiliser on it i know it might sound daft but the keys ive got for it are silca italy keys (am guessing replacement ones)

just checked online they are transponder keys so i bet they will be dead

Get it cracked up and see what works and what does not, you may be surprised. However if the battery has been left flat for any length of time it will be goosed.
The brakes and or the clutch may be seized, but there is a good chance that they won't be, have a good look at the tyres, they don't like being stood, especially if they have been under inflated.

well to get some info out of it i connected it to my motorbike battery (both 12v but not enough amp to start it) and it powered enough for me to see the miles and some basic info i know the brakes should be seized (rust on the disk on the front unknown about the back) not sure about clutch (ill figger out how to check it later) am just charging the battery now i think its doing something as the battery charger is making a noise the tyres are a bit down but i believe they should loose some air after 3 years of standing still

ok the battery is fully charged and ive got good news it managed to start left it on half hour running and i moved it!!! just down a bit then reversed it back so i dont think the brakes are seized am going to pump up the tyres on the weekend and then give it a clean ill upload some pictures in a minute

Well done. Next step is MOT to see if there are any expensive repairs waiting to bite. If that hurdle is OK, give it a service and use it. You may want to check cambelt history as well
