whilst changing the fuel filter this weekend, noticed a small amount of what looked like brass shards in the bottom of the filter housing, could this be the start of the tank pump failing?

I was in a rush so didn't clean it out but I will be doing so next week.

And isn't the berlingo a pig to get started after changing the filter?!
If you have the Siemens system - which I suspect that you have, there is no pump in the tank.
I'm under the impression mine is the bosch type.

But, if it is siemens, what is the cause of the brass shards?
If you have Bosch then I'm jealous - in fact I might just come round and swap them when you're not looking !!!

As to the origin of the shards I really haven't a clue if you don't have a lift pump
Brass filings in the filter bowl usually indicate low pressure pump failure (intank) and metal filings usually indicate a high pressure pump
failure.

Come on Coco spill the beans (no not the cocoa beans Hee Hee),

What do you know about the Siemens injection system:?::?::?:

Don't upset me too much as my 2.0HDI is also blessed with same, only thing I know is that you can't do a lot with them as regards tweaking and tuning as they are virtually a "closed shop"

That's just what I mean- you can't do a thing with them.
Well, had a look under the van and it looks like I'll have to take the fuel tank out to get to it, looks like a real pig of a job, the tank is almost the full width of the van and goes right over the exhaust.........
And then the dumb blonde joke,

Mechanic, " Sorry darlin' you got sh*t in y'r fuel filter"

Dumb blonde, "How often do I need to do that then?"

(With apologies, the old ones are almost always the best)
To bring an old thread back to life.

Changed the fuel filter yesterday (amongst other things) and I too found what look like small brass shards in the bottom of the bowl.

All my enquiries indicate that with the Siemens system there is no low pressure lift pump in the fuel tank, so I'm mystified as well. From where are these pieces appearing? Or, do we have these extra pumps? I can't see any reference on Servicebox and neither can I hear it on switching on.

P.K. - WE NEED YOU !!!!!!
