New engine - ShaunandClair - 06-11-2015 Hi folks, unashamedly seeking the knowledge of an expert if we may? We have a very poorly 2004 Berlingo van, the diagnosis was a new engine required! Our dilemma is whether to walk away (the garage has offered €500 for it as a "project" for themselves) or to bite the bullet and pay for a reconditioned engine to be fitted. Can anyone give us a very rough ballpark figure on the cost of said engine and labour to fit it? Thanks in advance RE: New engine - geoff - 06-11-2015 (06-11-2015, 06:47 PM)ShaunandClair Wrote: ........... 2004 Berlingo van ......... new engine required ..... pay for a reconditioned engine to be fitted. Better off getting another Berlingo, sorry. RE: New engine - tucker - 07-11-2015 Have to say I'd take the 500. It's not likely to be worth more than 1200 to 1500 and it's unlikely you will get a new engine even fitted for the difference let alone buy one. RE: New engine - Tomcat3 - 07-11-2015 Hi there I have to agree with the others unless you can do the work yourself to keep the costs down and you find a decent secondhand engine its going to cost you more than its worth. Take the cash and invest it in something that's already going. RE: New engine - Col - 07-11-2015 If you are prepared to do the work yourself, and depending what it is, you can pick up a secondhand engine for £40 upwards. Make sure you can see and hear it run first though RE: New engine - brodfather11 - 07-11-2015 Get a second opinion about the state of the engine. The garage may know something you don't . RE: New engine - ffrenchie - 07-11-2015 Which engine is it in your van, does it run and what are it's problems ? Your post is a bit vague but 500 euro would be a good chunk towards something running. Got to agree with brodfather they are a bit to keen to take it off your hand's RE: New engine - ShaunandClair - 08-11-2015 Thanks for the replies folks... Not being in a position to take on the work ourselves we took the cash ? RE: New engine - geoff - 08-11-2015 (08-11-2015, 09:50 PM)ShaunandClair Wrote: ...
