oil in coolant - markied955 - 24-12-2015

hi all,im new to this forum so thanks in advance for any help

i have a 07 berlingo its 1.9 an has 109k miles on it. the coolant tank has a lot of oil in it.i tho of 2 things one being head gasket an the other the oil cooler.also the cooling fan i think is not coming on.because of the large amount of oil in the coolant tank i went with the oil cooler and fitted one today.i flushed out the system with dishwasher powder and then went for a 5 mile spin.when i got back i checked the coolant tank and lo an behold it was just as bad as when i started..when i drive the van thr temp gauge is normal the heaters work fine an there is no water in the oil.do you think it could be the hg.the only time the guage goes up is in traffic which leads me to think the fan is not kicking in..any help would be much appricated

It takes a lot of flushing to get rid of the oil . I wouldn't dive in and change the head gasket just yet. run it a while and flush it now and again to see. The oil coolers are known for leaking oil into the coolant.

As for the fan not coming on they have to be very hot . I measured the temp sensor on a petrol 1.4 , it was approx. 120c before it switched.
