A/C based tuning - Drazen_R - 19-12-2012

Hi,
Berlingo II, 2008, 1.6 HDI 55 kw.
I wander if anybody noticed engine power surge when A/C is turned on?
Normally, turning A/C on would steal power from the engine, spoiling acceleration etc., But on this car, I feel like it's better than usual when A/C is on.
So I figure it must be some signal from A/C control box that compensate power loss by increasing engine torque.
(This engine with 55 kw has plenty of reserve anyway).

So, it would be nice if this signal can be engaged without actual use of A/C, as a "poor mans" tuning method?

Does anybody has any knowledge about this?

Thanks

No difference in power from my 1.6HDi 90hp when the A/C is on.

I haven't got A/C but get a useful boost in performance if I ask all my passengers to get out...

I also have a 1.6 90bhp & find no difference in performance or MPG with A/C on.
Is it an urban myth?:woop:

I don't see any difference in ours now the weather is cold as the pump doesn't kick in as often but when I first switched it on it just seemed to speed the tickover up a bit.

It certainly isn't a myth yet, but I will be very honored if I manage to create one

Engine idle speed increase will be the EMS compensating for the increased load of the compressor coming on line as a means of preventing stall.
Air Con can only steal power from an engine much in the same way as lightly binding brakes do.
